Innovative Freezer Storage Solution: Freezer storage for over 20 million pounds of beef was the challenge Dakota Cold Storage had for Gleeson, and the solution would be an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) facility that they contracted Gleeson to design and build.
Efficient Product Flow: Dakota Cold Storage receives cases from the adjacent Empirical Foods facility. The cases are automatically palletized and stored in the 0°F AS/RS system. Pallets of product can be resorted and stored based on test results within the system. When orders are placed, the ASRS system will build and stage a load based on the order criteria. No human intervention is required until the pallets are loaded into the truck for transportation. This warehouse was designed with 15 levels high, freezer storage and 10 levels deep for storage rows (one on both sides of the aisle), so there is plenty of room for the product to be stored, or moved to the truck-staging lane if the product is on demand.
Enhanced Temperature and Cleanliness Control: If the product is on-demand and needs to be moved to the shipping dock, to be shipped, the dock doors can now remain closed while the truck backs up to them and then they can be swung open inside the building once the product and truck are ready to be loaded, this provides better temperature and cleanliness controls.
