Carcass Cooler Expansion

Enhanced Efficiency: Hormel Foods selected Gleeson to design and construct their new Carcass cooler in Austin, MN. This project's biggest challenge was to construct a 20,000 head capacity carcass cooler on a landlocked site without impacting existing harvest and processing facility operations.
Keeping the Lights On: In order to allow operations to continue, we implemented a 3-phase approach. The result was a new state-of-the-art carcass cooler that improved carcass chilling time and consistency with minimal disruptions to the existing plant operations on a very tight site.
Phase One: Relocation of existing plant refrigeration condensers and hot water storage system
Phase Two: Construction of the first half of the new cooler and a temporary corridor to transport carcasses to the cooler
Phase Three: Demolition of an existing carcass cooler and construction of the remaining portion of the new carcass cooler.
